Alanis and the big rain

Alanis is settling in, though she still won't drink the water unless it's mixed with her food. This morning she spent some time sitting at the edge of the patio, looking out over the lower yard where the chickens live and where she goes to the fence to bark at the Great Dane next door. It was such a "guarding my yard" thing to do that I grabbed the camera to take a picture.

And as soon as I returned to the kitchen window, she had moved. Of course.

We were happy not to get any flooding here (though there are some suspicious damp spots in the garage) but on the night with the hardest rain, Alanis didn't want to go out in it to potty or anything else. I stepped outside and walked out a little ways with her following. Then she stopped, went, "This is yucky," and returned to the shelter near the back door with her tail firmly tucked under. It wasn't even that bad a downpour, just very constant. She's definitely not a water dog.

  1. We so understand, Alanis! Neither one of us likes to go out in the rain and get our heads wet! Me make mom hold an umbrella and even then, it's iffy if we go!
I never had wet kibble before till I broke my toofie and had to have it fixed and I kinda like this mushy stuff!
    You are very smart, Alanis!

    Love ya lots,
    Maggie and Mitch

  2. WE don't mind the rain, in fact it is the best fun to get really soggy and then have a good shake over the hoomans.

WE are so happy you are settling in to your new home Alanis.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend.

  4. Hi Alanis,
We don't much like going out in rain either. Mum once had that same situation (with the camera not being handy!) when I was trying to keep my pigs trotter hiding place secret from her. She says my barking around the base of one particular tree was a dead give-away! LOL.
Mum read somewhere to get a dog to drink by mixing beef stock with the drinking water.
Is it ok to put a link to you on the Ragamuffinn site?
    Bye for now.
    Finni xx

  5. Finni, we'd love to have a link there. We follow your blog.

  6. Alanis,

Me's didn't like rain for weeks and weeks when me's was young. My moomie had to hold an umbrella over my head to get me to go outside. Maybe if you look at your moomie with REALLY sad and pleading eyes she will get you an umbrella until you get used to the rain.
