Airedale Party

Last week Miro and I went to Megen's house to visit lots of Airedales who had gathered there for grooming day with Sheila. Sheila brought her dogs Kimi and Rummy; they're the ones who are stripped to perfection and are wearing brown collars. First everybody milled around saying hi.
Then some jumping.

That's Kimi or Rummy trying to show who's boss.

Miro says, "You're not the boss."

See the short tail of the dog on the right (below)? She is a rescue. Megen fosters lots of dogs for Airedale rescue and finds them good homes. This dog came to Megen very overweight and with so little muscle tone that she couldn't play the way she does now. Lots of dogs in rescue come from the same breeder and you can always recognize them by their badly docked tails. This breeder has been ruining Airedale tails for at least twenty years and his dogs have been finding their way into Pacific Northwest Rescue for that long, too.

All bushes must be investigated.

Tails wave good-bye.

  1. Looked like all you pooches had a fun time together. We have always admired Kimi's fabulous grooming.

I, BabyRD, have a close cropped tail, but was purchased from a breeder from Flagstaff, AZ. We've grown to love my "bobb"! People from Europe think that any docking of the tail is not good. I, of course, had NO say in the matter.

  2. Well I like my tail 'cos it helps me express myself to the full. There are so many things you can say with a tail, so the more tail you have the better, is my opinion. (But then I am a European).

  8. Hey, that look like an Aireparty at our house!
Can you do something about those bad breeders? It makes us sick to hear these stories. Please, is there something that can be done?
Have you got an animal welfare agency that you can report them to? Is there a law against this?

  9. Tail docking isn't allowed in the UK any more, though we recently met an Airedale whose hoomans applied specially to have it done ... and they docked it like a Rotti - no tail at all. That was a very sad sight.
It's good to see so many lovely Dales together. Megen is a special person!
And Miro is a hondsome boy!

  10. Wow looks like you all had a fun day!

Airedale Rescue does such a great job..what a shame the breeder is allowed to continue. GGGrrrrrr

Tails as so expressive. Sadly only Holly here has a real tail. Thank goodness as Nelly says it's illegal now!
