While I'm trying to brush his teeth, he wriggles his head and licks the brush to get all the poultry-flavored toothpaste he can. (No, he doesn't look at the chickens and think, "Toothpaste with feet!") I use the big end of this brush because it's hopeless trying to get at the smaller teeth with the small end:
Then saw a brush with three sides that's supposed to enclose the teeth so that you can easily brush the inner side of the teeth without the dog chewing the toothbrush to shreds.
I ordered it from the catalog and discovered the two sides don't open around an Airedale's huge molars. The brush might work on smaller dogs, but we're going back to the regular brush. I also give the dogs bones. Where to chew on bones in winter--that's a whole other problem.
Can't photograph the back teeth without an extra hand, so here are the front. |
What great brushes!

What a nice bright smile you must have. Fudge thought he was being punished the other day, but after Mom brushed his teeth with our new vanilla mint toothpaste, he was jumping all over the place and he smelled nice and minty fresh.

You are brave! I gave up brushing long ago, as the brushes didn't stand up to my golden's chewing. Now I have the groomer do it every 2 weeks, and give rawhide chews in between.
ReplyDeleteOf course, at the moment, Henry is "between sets", so there isn't much to do but pick up what he's shed. :)
(Hopping along...)
What beautiful toofies you have, Miro! You are very smart to brush every day!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots
Maggie and Mitch
I hate having my teeth brushed!
ReplyDeleteI'd love for you to stop by my blog sometime, www.PetBlogsUnited.com.

BabyRocketDog hAtEs to get any kind of grooming. She would be a total slob if we didn't force her to get groomed! She chooses not to participate. hehe. Luckily her teeth are in good shape since she chews bones. Hootie is much more compliant, except when it comes to the Gentle Leader. Boy does he hate that thing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good toothbrush. We just have the thing that fits over your finger. Wyatt loves the process...poor Stanzie runs for the hills!

Ciao bella!
ReplyDeleteLa mia ragazza gives me one medium CET HEXtra chew per day (she used to buy them at the vet but found them on Amazon - less $$) and my vet says that I, Lucia, have some of the cleanest, whitest choppers he's ever seen and should stick with the chews!! We tried the toothbrush, but I clamped my jaws shut FAST -- not a chance!!! Maybe Alanis would like the CET chews, instead??
Tanti baci!
Lucia
Oh my those clean teefies!! The canines on us incredible Airedales are simply INCREDIBLE.

Teeth brushing is so important, but I admit I am pretty slack about it when it comes to my dog. She is a regular daily bone chewer but I know she could probably use some brushing as well. *sigh* Perhaps a new year's resolution?
