Did I buy enough toys?

Since I'm starting a new generation of Airedales, it seemed time to buy new toys. Not all the old ones will be thrown out--there are Kongs, treat puzzles, a pink elephant, fleece toys that are still in good shape. But a puppy arriving at the end of the month will need his own toys. A fresh start with chewies for teething, baby Kong for treats, and squeakies.

Confession: I might keep the bad scary cat for myself. Don't you think it makes a nice bed decoration?

Since I was out buying toys, I had to get a new one for Alanis. It's a flat fuzzy toy with two squeakers. I picked out the ringneck pheasant.

First she retrieved it.

Then she killed it.

Then she settled down to tear its little feathers off and "eat" it.

The breeder from whom I'm getting a little boy said he'd pick out the one that's the least "birdy" because it's not a good idea to bring home a dog with a high prey drive who is intent on fetching chickens, dead or alive. Flat Pheasant will have to suffice.

  1. Ciao Sherry and Alanis!

I have that same PetStages chewamathingy that you have for the soon-to-arrive fratello and it was perfetto for those achy teething days. Mia ragazza soaked it in water, put it into a plastic bag and popped it into the freezer. The icy coldness always felt so soothing!

Mia ragazza and I were "off bloggie" this past week due to out-of-town company, so first, we think Alanis is looking really good in these photos -- all contented and Airedale-y -- and second, a new boy!?!?! Magnifico! When will he arrive??

    Tanti baci!

  2. OMG, you're getting a brother, Alanis! We are so excited for you! You simply must have your mom add a Wubba and a Cuz to your new toy stash! Poor Ringneck Pheasant - but we bet you had fun while it lasted, right?!

    Love ya lots,

  3. What lovely news, a little brother arriving soon! Perfect! Nice work on the pheasant Alanis. We have a pheasant like that - it's been desqueaked but is surviving so far. Those are great toys for you and your brother. I bet the cat makes it into the K9 toy basket eventually! LOL.

  4. Way to go Alanis! Bentley killed his yellow worm tonight while we were playing tug in the backyard. Fuzzy stuffing everywhere; time to retire it. And yes Sherry, more photos of house coming soon. Gotta get thru mid-terms- biology 1st, yuck! Congrats on the new puppyboy. We're excited for you two! Have a great rest of the week.

  8. Oh we are thrilled about another airedale for you to love. BUT wake you your Mommy...airedale like to destroy whatever gets in their way. The Kong Company is the best and I personally have killed two real birds. Tasted very nice even without seasoning...
    Enough said.

  9. Great job on the pheasant, Alanis! We have lots of old toys with no squeekers, no eyes and usually no stuffing! We are soooo excited that you are getting an Aire-brother! We can't wait to see him!
