The weirdness of just one dog

I keep thinking I'm forgetting something. There's just one food bowl to fill and wash. Fewer poops to pick up. I feel as if I've lost an important skill: I was able to indentify by shape and distribution pattern which dog had done which poops. I daresay not every dog has such an individual "signature."

When washing romaine lettuce, I think, "Alanis will like a piece." Miro will take it--he'll accept anything remotely food-like that you hand him--but he is not as enthusiastic about lettuce or fruit as Alanis was. I have to quell the urge to keep giving him bits of food every time I'm preparing something in the kitchen.

Miro does not sleep on her bed. He follows me around the house more than he used to. He doesn't like to spend a lot of time outside by himself. That's another habit I'm trying not to make, of going outside with him every time, not a fun thing in the middle of winter.
Waiting at the door for dinner, though, doesn't change.

  1. It's a tough time of mourning and changing routines.
When our first Airedale 'Leo' passed away, Stanzie didn't miss a beat. She enjoyed being an only dog. Wyatt will be a basket case when Stanzie leaves us someday.
    Hugs to you and Miro,
    Wyatt's Mom

  2. We can't even imagine. So sad. Sending lots of hugs
    Benny & Lily

  3. It is odd and hard to get used to. After Maggie passed, Jack had a difficult time with his dinner because she would always start to eat and then that was his signal that he could start to eat too. Without the signal he would look around and walk off so I had to do some hand feeding and any other trick to get a new routine going..It is just hard all around when you lose one.

Big hugs to the both of you. xxoo

  4. It sounds like you're having a rough time mourning the loss of Alanis. We're sending you positive vibes from Canada. We hope Micro is doing okay.

  5. We remember this so well when angel Maggie went to Rainbow Bridge. It's sure not easy. Hugs to you and Miro, Sherry♥

  6. Oh guys. This must be a really hard time. One thing about a one dog home is that when they go to the Bridge, you only have your grief to deal with ~ it would break my heart to see it in my dog too. I'm sendin' you guys extra AireZens and {{{{{hugs}}}}}
    Ruby ♥
pees: if Miro doesn't want the lettuce, I'll take it!! (its one of the only veggies I like! BOL)

  7. It's so difficult when one of our beloveds goes to the Bridge, isn't it? We're still getting used to not having Sammy around. It's just Moosey for now, and it's strange for us all.

Sending you love, hugs, purrs and prayers as you miss your sweet Alanis.

  8. Home just aren't the same when one of our furry furends leave us...
